In the animal kingdom, Hawks are birds of prey that hunt during the day rather than at night and their name comes from the Middle English word hafoc, which means “to grasp or seize.” The latest entry From Stührling Original’s Sportsman’s Series is the Sea Hawk, a day and date mechanical self-winding timepiece. This hawk, can go hunting with you day or night and with its whopping canteen-style crown protector will seize attention wherever you go by land or by sea. The Sea Hawk makes a mighty impression with its simple yet rugged case. The 44-millimeter round case has been blanked from solid 316L surgical grade stainless steel and is treated superbly with a brushed satin finish. However, it is the colossal screw-down crown protector that initially grabs the eye. The 10-millimeter round crown protector is anchored to the case with an expertly engineered “u” shaped tie-down anchor and “u” link. The anchor is secured to the case with micro-screws and the link that holds the cap is fastened with male and female screw pins. The engineering continues with a beveled edge on the cap while the Stührling signature logo is milled into its topside. The canteen-style crown adds to the overall footprint of the Sea Hawk measuring a full 53-millimeters across from three to nine. Another eye-catching detail is the high polish finish on the outer edge of the bezel snapping in contrast to the satin finish all around. Completing the at-a-glance look is the ever-so simple naked dial with Luminova™ baton markers at most positions and Arabic numerals at 12, 3 and 9. But do not be fooled by its simple look, the Sea Hawk features the reliable Stührling 22-jewel mechanical automatic day/date movement, caliber ST-90016. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with quick-set day and date functionality, the engine is decorated magnificently with Perlage and Cotes de Genève on the back plates and a Damier finished rotor. To go with its hardy appeal, the Sea Hawk sports a domed Krysterna™ crystal on its face and a Krysterna™ crystal for the screwed-in exhibition case-back. The 22-millimeter heavily padded genuine leather strap with contrast stitching is a fitting complement for this rugged bird and the stainless steel buckle has a matching brushed finish and boasts “tuck and roll” engineering. When in the closed position, the strap conforms to the buckle and lays flatter and more comfortable on the wrist. Great for outdoor wear, you’ll want to “grasp” the Sea Hawk then “seize” the day!

Throughout the history of watches, there have been many different variations that follow the line of a classic look. Now, there is a watch that combines both a classic look with dramatic modern styling to create a masterpiece of our time. This is the perfect watch for you if you enjoy timeless designs. The textural surface of the dial (face of the watch) complements the features of the sub-dials to complete a balanced look. This allows this piece to be worn in any attire and on almost every occasion. This watch’s strengths are the structure and functions of the watch. The case for this particular line of watches comes in the square construction. Therefore, the hour indicators cave inwards to give a 3 dimensional aspect. You will notice the variety of sub-dials such as the 24-hour indicator (located near the 10 o’clock position) and the day indicator (located near the 2 o’clock position). This collection also comes with the date indicator (located at the 6 o’clock position). To adjust the date indicator, you must loosen the crown (time-setting knob) to the 1st level and rotate the knob. The date indicator can be adjusted by turning the time hands until the date hand pivots. Then, you must bring the hour hand back to the 12 o’clock position and rotate it clockwise until the date hand changes. To adjust the day indicator as well as the time hands, you must loosen the crown even further to the 2nd level and rotate the crown. You will notice that the official Orient logo is engraved on the top of the crown. Another attributes this watch has is its luminescent time indicators, which allows you to view your watch during the night. The watch is also water-resistant for up to 50 meters. This watch comes in solid stainless steel bands of matte and finished links or in a genuine leather band. On the top and bottom of the dial, the first couple links are tapered followed by untapered links. The clasp is a deployment clasp that prevents the hassle of your watch coming off inadvertently. There are 9 variations to this series of watches. For the metal bands, two of the models come in gold cases and bands. The only difference is the dial color: black and white. The silver metal bands 4 variations with different dial colors: black, navy blue, white, and black/white. The leather bands come in either brown or beige. The brown leather bands have two variations in the dial: black and black/white. The last variation is a beige band with a white dial.
